ELR Software produces computer programs designed by speech pathologists for speech, language & literacy intervention. Our programs may be used interactively within therapy sessions, to increase efficiency in service delivery, and to improve access to the Internet for people with special needs. We are also available as consultants to clinicians and research projects in the fields of literacy and accessibility issues associated with the Internet.

The aim of this newsletter is to inform you of developments and changes to our major products eLr (Extra Language Resources) and Word Meanings. We welcome the opportunity for feedback and questions, and will be pleased to consider including reader contributions and announcements.

This Newsletter (and previous editions) as well as a "print-ready" PDF version of the current edition is available online at www.elr.com.au/news. An email version is also sent monthly to members of our mailing list (See Subscribing/Unsubscribing).

In this issue -

  1. Additions to eLr - MyStack and Paste-box Loader
  2. Planning and Delivery of eLr - Free Webinars
  3. Other Independent Developers

  1. Additions to eLr - MyStack and Paste-box Loader

  2. We're pleased this month to be able to tell you about two powerful, new tools that have been added to eLr.

    MyStack

This has been added to the loader pages for both "Registered" and "Guest" users. You select eLr tasks (up to 50), then MyStack generates a single window containing icons representing those tasks for use within a clinical session. Loading any required task from this "stack" is just just a matter of clicking on its icon.

MyStack replaces the original "multi-window" mechanism used in earlier versions of eLr. It doesn't clutter the screen with multiple windows, works in all browsers, and is especially convenient as a shared teletherapy screen. For all users, MyStack is available from the new Paste-box Loader, and for Registered users it's also available from the Session Planner and Quick Load List.

    Paste-box Loader

This "Loader" has also been added to both the "Registered" and "Guest" loader pages. It allows pasting from the clipboard of eLr task numbers for immediate opening in MyStack. The numbers maybe in any format such as a simple list, or contained within larger texts such as an email.

Registered users are also able to paste lists generated in either the Session Planner, the Quick Load List, or copied from client records. Any such list may be further edited to produce a "home program" which families are able subsequently to paste directly in to their "Loader".

These additions currently work only on the eLr website and Windows version of eLr-Offline but, unfortunately, not yet the iPad App version of eLr-Offline. So, for the present we also recommend families using "Guest" access do so via the eLr web site if possible, since these new tools will work on any device, including all modern computers, and Apple or Android tablets.

  3. Planning and Delivery of eLr - Free Webinars

  4. The addition of the Paste-box Loader provides eLr with a mechanism well suited to planned delivery. Sessions may be prepared in advance for Zoom, Coviu, Webex etc, and presentation is almost immediate via a shared MyStack screen.

Transfer via the clipboard allows the task lists to be saved to, or copied from, various pre-saved sets in whatever way the operator prefers. Generic sources such as email or Word documents, "cloud notes" services, or client management/records system may all be used. No additional file storage required, and interoperability between colleagues and their various devices is possible.

If you'd like to see and discuss more about how these tools can support your eLr therapy sessions, face-to-face or via teletherapy, please contact us to arrange a free webinar.

  5. Other Independent Developers

  6. As an occasional feature of this Newsletter, we include simple, unpaid announcements of products developed by other small, independent developers, who, like ourselves, are practising clinicians who have put their ideas and experience into resource materials for general distribution. Links and brief information about these sites may be found at www.elr.com.au/links/developers.htm. To date we have listed -

If you would like your materials listed on this page (at no charge), please contact us.

  7. Free Downloads

  8. ELR has a number of free or evaluation files available for downloading directly from our website. Please see www.elr.com.au/downloads.htm for specific details. For other supporting materials and documents available for free download, please see www.elr.com.au/support.htm.

  9. ELR 2020/2021 Calendar

  10. ELR Software offers free eLr tutorials over the web. We can provide this sort of support to individuals, or to groups who would like to have an overview of eLr. We are also offering free Coviu sessions to allow clinicians to get a feel for teletherapy, and in particular the advantages of using eLr for Coviu. Please contact us for details.
